DIY Pendants with Blank Bezels AND Making Magnets
| See the Coasters...more on those later!! |
Okay, maybe overkill on the photos, but I'm just too excited. I think they are awesome. And, besides, until my mom isn't the only one reading this, I just want her to see what's going on around here. :)
Some Tips:
1) I purchased the square glass with the bails (the little things that hold them to the necklace itself), and then, last minute, purchased the circle glass and the piece that it sits into (the silver round piece.) These, to me, look much better, and they were easier for me to give a more polished look to the pendant.
2) Tip two: The blogger from whom I got the great advice, HouseofJoyfulNoise.com, also explains how to use these glass pendants to make adorable magnets. Well, word to the wise (me -not the wise.) I bought some very powerful magnets as suggested by the aforementioned blog. Then, thinking I could keep everything neat and tidy I placed the little squares I had made and wanted to add magnets to....(are you following me here?) into a little square dish.
Okay, these magnets are like "number five is alive!" If you know what I'm talking about, well, we'll leave it at that. Anyway, I was just now placing the glue onto the backs of the square glass pieces I made (these were my leftover square ones I didn't want to use to bails on right now.)
Well, I was on to the second magnet, and -these magnets being amazingly strong- it literally flung itself at the other magnet already attempting to set its poor little self into the glue. So, I then had two gloppy magnets, and, wise sage that I am, I decided, hmmm, not a good idea to keep these so close.
So, what do I do? I pick up one of the glass pieces I want to re-place a magnet on...but! I'm holding the set of these crazy strong magnets in my other hand. So....the magnet flings itself to my other hand, diamond glaze and all, and proves, once and for all that college does not equip one for life...nor does it equate to one's level of common sense. Just saying....
So, separate your magnet pieces before you glue.
3) My last piece of advice? I underestimated the whole "file the sides." Okay, "maybe " my ADD kicked in and I just jumped over that step completely. Having read that JUST NOW (after, like, 42 times skimming this tutorial) I must say that would have made things a lot easier. Otherwise, you will be like me, trying to figure out how to make the piece of scrapbook paper or whatever are using you just like you'd like.
That's it. That's all the HELPS I have. I hope you like my pendants. If you have any websites, tutorials, advice, please let me know. Remember, I'm a newb. And, I am living out those dreams that have sit in the back of my mind too long. Life is too short to WAIT on living the life I dream....and that's kinda silly anyhow ...just writing it down is an act that forces me to live fully, teach my kids to live fully.
I'll tell ya'll my story someday, and I think you, too, will look at each day differently...really.
I am really loving the pendantsI am seeing on all the DIY Mom blogs out there. I scoured the web and, really, check out HouseofJoyfulNoise for the full tutorial.
I’m simply crafting away here, and I’m actually thinking about showing what I’ve made at this awesome store inWest Jefferson, NC, call Past and Present (this YouTube Video is before the store really even started up...like I said, it's brand new, so there is SO much more now.) It’s brand new, has many vendors, with so many different awesomeitems: antiques, furniture, handmadeitems. If you are by that way, you haveto stop by Past and Present, right in the middle of cool, little West Jefferson, NC, 25 minutes from Boone, NC.
So, tell me what youthink. Check out House of JoyfulNoise.com blog, of course, if you are curious as to how these are made. You have just laid eyes upon my humble attempts at one of my "dreaming bigs"….crafting. My passion is repurposing and refinishing furniture. Crafting jewelry is new, exciting, and on my dream list. Thus, it is here now1
Hey Jamie!
ReplyDeleteWell paint a :) on ME! I found you in my stats, of course. I'm so glad my project inspired you. And I'm even gladder, to realize you inspired me back. Because I like your circle pendants, set in the silver circle piece better too! Honestly, I have never seen those, that having been my first pendant project ever, myself. So yeah....sorry about your magnet mishap! I did have one of my own too; I guess I didn't tell that story. lol. Maybe-possibly-perhaps, we don't need magnets that strong. But I had no way of knowing what the strength-labeling of them meant anyway. Craft and learn, I guess. lol
So it looks you are selling these? Etsy shop?....What'cha got? Because if you still have that birdie circle pendant, I'd surely like to know how much you are selling it for. YES....I COULD make it myself. But why bother, when you already have? Price depending, I might like to buy it for my littlest girl, if she promises to share it with her Mama. So email me, or something, please.
Going to see in what ways I can connect with you around the net. I see many parallels...both bloggers, craft/DIY'ers, Christians,homeschoolers...etc., I'm sure.
Lastly...thanks so much for all of the blog link credit. I always appreciate bloggin' integrity, when we can.
I was in West Jefferson a few weeks ago, and I bought 4 of your beautiful pendants at the store you mentioned- 2 for my daughters and 2 for their best friends- Sooo cute. I've been wearing them out and about, and I've gotten so many compliments. We love them!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking the time to write me! I am thrilled you all love your pendants! I am just now posting about some new pendants I'm making!
DeleteI hope you enjoyed your time in West Jefferson, and, please, stop by Past and Present next time you head through town!
