| This is it! And, while I'm no photographer, I'm even worse when I don't have my camera! |
I am so excited to show you the end result! I started with an ugly brown side table. I told you about it here...I was really doubting this baby's potential...and my limited abilities.
So, what did I do? Well, I had originally thought this was all wood...need you more proof that I'm no expert here? So, when it wasn't looking the way I wanted, I made my own aqua batch of chalk paint using one of Lowe's "current colors" from their new wall where they have all the colors in sample sizes along with a swatch book for you-ready to take! Love that.
But, the aqua chalk paint wasn't really working for me. I decided to try roughing it up...to give it a real worn look with new colors. I used a little green acrylic paint lightly brushing it on the large areas and really adding the acrylic into the grooves.
| Here is another view and probably the best at showing the colors...at least on my computer screen |
After I had added the green on top of the homemade chalk paint I glazed the entire piece. I use Valspar's tinted glaze. Even though it says it's "tinted" you have to add a color to it. I had Lowe's add black. Even so, it's more of a grey color. I wanted it a little darker so I mixed in a little black acrylic with the tinted glaze to make it darker.
Don't you just love how the green and the black glaze work together in the little grooves? I'm so excited-can you tell? I actually washed the whole piece with glaze to make sure it was grungy enough.
7 days later (the time it takes glaze to dry thoroughly) I added my new fav protectant...rub-on polyurethane!
It's a liquid, and I just used a rag to wipe it on. Easy peasy.
What I don't have is a pic of is the inside of the drawer (and quite possible a before pic-oops.) The inside of the drawer was in bad shape so I added some batting-I think that's what it's called...the white stuff that is a bit thick and comes in large sheets-and over that I added a piece of fabric.
FYI: I used permanent spray adhesive, and it worked bee-U-tifully!
So, there you have it. My first step off the deep end trying some new paint ideas on some old furniture!
