Classical Conversations: A Review of Our First Year

I have always been a Charlotte Mason advocate.  I truly believe her method of learning and training up a child is wonderful.

I have learned there are other ways, too.  Classical education is something many may shy away from, but I want you to know, it isn't what you think.

You see, last year was just an all around overwhelming year for our family.  I needed help.  I needed the kids to be accountable to someone else besides me.

So along came a friend.  She is one of those friends who I, at the time, didn't even know that well, but I absolutely loved her.  She is passionate, intelligent, loves the Lord, and lives life with intention.  Okay, Jenny, this is my plea to you-let's get together sometime! Okay, pitiful plea for friendship there, but it's hard to find people I relate to.  Is it that way for you?  I digress.

My point?  Her passion sold me on CC.  And, I am so glad it did.  She actually mentors my daughter in Challenge B.  Another post, I promise.

But, my point is this.  My son is my youngest love, and I was concerned how he would perform in CC Foundations.  He deals daily with VERY REAL challenges associated with ADHD.  And call it what you want,  I call ADHD real.  Again, another post, another time.  Promise.

Classical Conversations, Foundations, has been FANTASTIC! for him.  I worried (I know, not of the Lord, but I'm being honest here).  Why did I worry?  If the Lord is in charge, what do I have to fear?

Let me say this as briefly as possible.

Classical Conversations, Foundation level, works.

It works for your child with ADHD.  This is important to know.

It works for your 4 year old.  It works for your 11 year old.  It is FUN!

And, here I am saying what I never thought I would:

MEMORIZATION has a place in our children's educations.

Throw out what you THINK you know about CC.  Check it out for yourself.

Free Practicums are coming up across America.  These are three day symposiums that will open your eyes to homeschooling and loving it.  Child care is available where we are. I am sure it is elsewhere.  Check out their website www.classicalconversations.com

The above icon is at the top right of the classical conversation website.  Click on it.  See what is going on in your town.  Do it now!  The Practicums are quickly approaching.

What is the worst that can happen?  You learn new approaches to homeschooling your children.  You come away refreshed, excited, passionate-no matter how you choose to train up your children.

I hope you found this helpful.  Please let me know if you do.  Do you have a child that deals with ADHD?  What things do you do in your family that helps? I'd love to know!
