It's been one month since my kiddos have stepped into the Public School world. After six years of homeschooling I was curious, and a little nervous, as to how they would fare.
Perhaps it's best if I share what my 6th grade son and 9th grade daughter have shared about this first month thus far.
The Kids' Take on Their First Month
- Getting up early isn't the end of the world.
- "Riding the bus is fun!" (son)
- There are some cool classes. It just depends on the teacher.
- There are all sorts of different people.
- -and most all of them are really nice!
- "High School is pretty cool. And easy."
- Football games have new meaning.
- Sometimes making friends is hard.
- Until it becomes easy.
- There are a lot of tests.
- "School lunches are great!" (son)
- "School lunches are terrible."(daughter)
- When you accidentally skip a problem on a test, you don't get to go back and do it. It's just marked wrong (big surprise for both the kids).
- You really have to read the directions and write down homework.
- Homework is no fun.
- "There's never time to do what I want to do."
- "I'm a lot busier. That's good AND bad."
- "But, I pretty much love it so far."
- "First Days and New Things can be scary, but now I don't know why."

So, all in all, not bad! In fact, pretty good. We'll keep you updated. Have you recently gone from homeschooling to public schooling? If so, I'd love to hear from you!
